The cancellation of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-UG 2026 examination has led to significant unrest in Kerala, following allegations of a question paper leak. V. Sivankutty, the General Education Minister of Kerala, condemned the Union government's handling of the situation, citing it as a failure that jeopardizes the future of countless medical aspirants. He highlighted the emotional and financial toll on students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who had dedicated months to preparing for the exam. Despite assurances from the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding a new schedule and fee refunds, Sivankutty emphasized that these measures cannot alleviate the psychological stress experienced by affected students.

Student organizations, including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), have called for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged irregularities. The SFI accused the NTA and the Union Education Ministry of failing to maintain the integrity of the examination process and alleged a connection between the government and coaching centers. In contrast, the ABVP expressed concerns over the credibility of the examination system, insisting on transparency and accountability. Both groups are prepared to escalate protests if their demands for justice are not met.
