The rebel faction appears to be gaining traction, as they have decided to support C Joseph Vijay, the newly sworn-in chief minister, during the upcoming floor test in the assembly. This marks a notable shift for the AIADMK, which recently lost its status as the opposition party after securing only 47 seats in the assembly elections. The party has not been in opposition for more than five years, and many former ministers are blaming Palaniswami for the party's ongoing defeats. Shanmugam and Velumani's faction is reportedly prepared to vote for TVK, distancing themselves from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Despite efforts for reconciliation among party seniors, the divisions within the AIADMK appear to be deepening.
