Despite Uttar Pradesh's low aviation fuel tax of 1%, passengers flying from Noida International Airport may face fares similar to or higher than those from Indira Gandhi International Airport due to elevated airport tariffs and passenger charges. This pricing structure has raised concerns among airlines regarding the airport's competitiveness.
- 01Noida International Airport's passenger charges may negate the benefits of low fuel taxes.
- 02IndiGo's fares from both airports are nearly identical for key routes.
- 03Higher landing and user development charges at NIA could deter airlines from operating there.
- 04The airport operator defends its pricing as aligned with industry standards.

Air passengers looking for cheaper flights from the newly inaugurated Noida International Airport (NIA) may find fares comparable to those at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) due to significantly higher airport tariffs and passenger charges. Although Uttar Pradesh has implemented a low 1% VAT on aviation turbine fuel, the interim passenger user charges and aeronautical fees at NIA are substantially higher than those at IGIA, eliminating any expected fare advantage. For instance, IndiGo's one-way fares for flights to Bengaluru are priced at ₹8,910 from both airports, with similar pricing for other destinations. IndiGo has formally objected to NIA's tariff structure, warning that it could result in higher overall fares and discourage passengers from using the new airport. The airline estimates that operating costs could increase by approximately ₹103 crore annually if it were to run 15 daily flights from NIA. The airport operator has defended its pricing, stating that it reflects the value delivered in terms of infrastructure and efficiency. Political attention has also been drawn to the issue, with local leaders questioning the fare disparities and seeking intervention from higher authorities.
