As of May 8, a total of eight Hantavirus cases have been reported, resulting in three deaths, leading to a case fatality ratio of 38%. The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that all identified cases are linked to the Andes virus (ANDV). A cluster of severe respiratory illness was noted aboard a cruise ship with 147 passengers and crew, where 34 individuals had previously disembarked. Following the last Disease Outbreak News on May 4, three suspected cases were confirmed, along with one additional confirmed case. Despite these reports, health experts, including those from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), have reassured the public that the chances of the virus spreading widely are low.
