WhatsApp is introducing a new feature called Incognito Chat with Meta AI, designed to allow users to engage in private conversations with the AI assistant under the protection of end-to-end encryption. This means that not even Meta can read the messages exchanged. The feature was announced during the LlamaCon generative AI conference in April 2025 and utilizes Meta's Private Processing technology to ensure that conversations remain confidential. Messages sent in this mode are not stored and will vanish automatically, addressing concerns over sensitive topics like health and finances. Additionally, Meta plans to introduce another feature called Side Chat, enabling users to ask questions about ongoing chats or request summaries. Both features will be gradually available to users in the coming months, following recent testing of a similar Meta AI chatbot feature on Threads, which faced backlash from users. Meta aims to provide a secure and private environment for users interacting with AI.
