The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India, is set to officially open two state-of-the-art facilities—the Advanced Neuroscience Centre and the Mother and Child Care Centre—on April 30. The inauguration will be presided over by Union Health Minister JP Nadda during PGIMER's 39th convocation, where 550 students will receive their degrees. The new centres aim to significantly reduce waiting times for surgeries and improve overall patient care. Dr. Vivel Lal, the director of PGIMER, noted that the Advanced Neuroscience Centre will triple its number of operation theatres and introduce a dedicated neuroanaesthesia department. Although outpatient services began on April 20, inpatient services are expected to commence by the end of this year as the institute acquires necessary equipment like CT and MRI machines. The Mother and Child Care Centre will help ease the burden on the existing pediatric emergency wing, which currently accommodates three times the number of patients than it has beds. Additionally, PGIMER will unveil a medical museum honoring its founding fathers, showcasing their legacy and contributions to the institution.
