This year, Pre-University (PU) colleges in Hubballi-Dharwad, Karnataka, are witnessing a significant influx of students from northern and central regions, driven by impressive SSLC results and the cities' growing reputation as educational hubs. Admissions to science and commerce streams have surged by nearly 30% compared to last year, according to college managements. Many colleges, particularly those offering residential facilities, have already closed admissions after reaching full capacity. With the deadline for PUC-1 admissions set for June 30, numerous institutions have filled approximately 75% of their sanctioned intake. Students aspiring for science are showing a preference for colleges affiliated with professional coaching centres, aiming for competitive exams like NEET and JEE. Vishwanath Koravi, director of Chetan PU Commerce College, highlighted the strong educational ecosystem in the twin cities, which includes three medical colleges, five engineering colleges, and reputable coaching centres. The demand for commerce stream admissions is also high, with coaching centres preparing students for CA, CS, CMA, and banking exams. Furthermore, computer courses, including artificial intelligence training, are attracting students from both streams. Shankranna Munavalli, former director of KLE Society, noted about a 20% increase in student enrolments this year, with many students coming from distant districts. Umesh Purohit, principal of Excellent NEET Academy's PU College, mentioned that the colleges are continuously upgrading their offerings, providing quality education at affordable fees, and are on track to achieve full admissions by mid-June.
