On May 2, Kirandeep Kaur, a 36-year-old woman from Saian Khurd village in Ludhiana district, Punjab, was seriously injured when her brother-in-law, Avtar Singh alias Jagtar Singh from Mandi Gobindgarh, allegedly tried to run her and her husband over with a car near the Dehlon bypass. The couple was stopped by the roadside to take a phone call when the accused drove towards them at high speed. While her husband escaped unharmed, Kirandeep suffered a fractured leg and other injuries. The incident is believed to be linked to an ongoing family property dispute, which has seen previous attempts to forcibly evict Kirandeep's family from their home. The Dehlon police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Avtar Singh under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. Investigating officer ASI Dharam Singh stated that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to apprehend all involved parties.
