In a significant development in a study-abroad fraud case, Shraddha Vitthal Gadekar was arrested by Charkop police in Mumbai after being on the run for five months. The case revolves around a consultancy named 'Career and Options', which allegedly defrauded Dr. Nehal Kanu Joshi, a 52-year-old resident of Lokhandwala Township in Kandivali, of ₹10.11 lakh (approximately $12,200 USD) under the pretense of securing his daughter's admission to Wittenborg University in the Netherlands. The fraud began when Dr. Joshi and his daughter visited the consultancy, where they were assured of a smooth admission process. Following their assurances, Dr. Joshi secured a ₹33 lakh education loan and transferred ₹10 lakh to the consultancy. However, when they failed to initiate the admission process, Dr. Joshi discovered the deceit, leading to a police investigation. Gadekar's arrest has raised hopes of apprehending the remaining accused, Stella and Rakesh Mehta, who are believed to have committed similar frauds against multiple victims.
