The Delhi Traffic Police has launched a pilot project to test 'AC helmets' aimed at helping officers manage the intense summer heat. ASI Veer Singh, stationed at a busy roundabout in Chanakyapuri, reported that the prototype helmet significantly alleviates the discomfort caused by extreme temperatures. The initiative includes 10 cooling helmets, which are part of a broader heat-relief strategy that also features refrigerated refreshment vans and portable fans. According to DCP (Traffic) Shobhit Saxena, six helmets are currently being tested in the New Delhi area, and feedback is being gathered to evaluate their effectiveness. Singh noted the challenges faced by traffic personnel, including dehydration and slipping shoes on hot asphalt, highlighting the importance of such cooling devices. The rechargeable helmets operate for four to five hours and include adjustable cooling settings. In addition to the helmets, refrigerated vans circulate throughout deployment zones, providing cold water and refreshments, while more roadside booths have been installed at critical locations to offer respite during peak summer hours.
