In response to the sweltering summer heat, the Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) has initiated a pilot project providing cooling gear to its personnel, including innovative 'AC helmets'. These helmets, which are currently being tested by officers like ASI Veer Singh at the Chanakyapuri roundabout, aim to mitigate the discomfort caused by extreme temperatures. Each helmet operates on a rechargeable battery, offering 4-5 hours of cooling relief, and features a digital panel to monitor battery life and cooling settings. Alongside the helmets, DTP has introduced refrigerated refreshment vans stocked with cold beverages and additional roadside booths for shade. Officers report that these measures significantly improve their comfort during long shifts, which often begin in the early morning and extend for hours under the sun. DCP (Traffic) Shobhit Saxena indicated that if the feedback from the pilot is positive, more helmets will be procured for broader use among traffic personnel.
