SK bioscience has entered into a strategic partnership with Colombia's state-owned pharmaceutical company VECOL to facilitate vaccine technology transfer and local manufacturing as part of a national initiative aimed at enhancing vaccine self-sufficiency in Colombia. This initiative, which involves an investment of approximately US$260 million over the next decade, is spearheaded by the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection and aims to strengthen public health preparedness in the region. Under the agreement, SK bioscience will provide the necessary technology and expertise for the development of manufacturing facilities in Colombia, while VECOL will manage the operational aspects and ensure compliance with government regulations. The initial product for this collaboration will be SKYVaricella, a proprietary varicella vaccine, with plans for future expansion into a wider range of vaccines. This partnership not only aims to improve local vaccine production capabilities but also seeks to establish a more resilient vaccine supply chain across Latin America. Officials from both organizations highlighted the importance of this agreement in advancing Colombia's health sovereignty and fostering long-term public health solutions.
