IIT Madras, located in Chennai, has incubated 112 startups during the 2025-26 financial year, marking the second year in a row that it has surpassed the 100 startup milestone. This brings the total number of startups on campus to 567, with a combined valuation exceeding ₹74,100 crore (approximately $8.9 billion USD). The new startups span various sectors, including manufacturing, robotics, automotive, and artificial intelligence, reflecting a strong emphasis on deep technology. The institute also filed 431 patents in advanced areas such as quantum technologies and robotics in the past year. Director V Kamakoti emphasized the importance of these achievements in fostering a culture of innovation at IIT Madras, while professor Manu Santhanam highlighted the support system in place for faculty and students to manage intellectual property effectively.
