Ashok Lahiri, an experienced economist and former chief economic advisor to the government of India, is set to become the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog, as reported by the news agency PTI. Lahiri has also served as a member of the 15th Finance Commission, showcasing his extensive background in economic policy. Meanwhile, Gobardhan Das, a prominent scientist and current director of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Bhopal, will join as a member of NITI Aayog. Das has previously held a professorship and chaired the Special Centre for Molecular Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, highlighting his significant contributions to the field of science.
