In Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, Jamaluddin alias Dabbu, a 50-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a two-year-old girl, was shot and arrested during a police encounter late Friday night. The incident occurred after he had previously escaped from police custody while hospitalized on April 21. The alleged assault took place on April 19 when Jamaluddin visited a friend’s house in a village under Manikpur. Following the incident, the child's father reported the crime, leading to Jamaluddin's arrest. However, while being transported, he fell ill and was admitted to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj, from where he escaped. After a complaint was filed by Narendra Singh, the station house officer of Manikpur police station, a case was registered against Jamaluddin and two constables for negligence. During a search operation on Friday night, police intercepted Jamaluddin near Kareti trisection, where he allegedly opened fire. In the retaliatory action, he sustained bullet injuries to both legs and was taken to a local health center for treatment.
