During a recent bilateral meeting, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, conveyed Tehran's willingness to embrace a diplomatic initiative from India concerning West Asia. He noted that Iran has previously welcomed mediation efforts from countries like Egypt, Qatar, and Oman, and is now looking to India, a significant regional player, to contribute to peace efforts. Gharibabadi's remarks come in the context of Pakistan's role as a mediator between the US and Iran, which underscores the shifting dynamics in regional diplomacy. He stated that any initiative from India would be welcomed and emphasized the importance of India's balanced approach during the ongoing BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting, which Iran is attending. The meeting has faced difficulties in reaching a consensus, particularly regarding language condemning Iran, with Gharibabadi indicating that one neighboring country is pushing for such a stance. He also mentioned the ongoing evaluation of services in the Strait of Hormuz, where India has been allowed to transit vessels, reinforcing the friendly ties between Iran and India.
