The southwest monsoon has officially reached south Konkan in Maharashtra, as confirmed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). However, its advancement into the interior of the state is expected to be slow due to unfavorable atmospheric conditions. Weather expert G.P. Sharma noted that while the Arabian Sea branch is driving rainfall along the coast, the Bay of Bengal branch, which typically aids inland penetration, is currently inactive. Predictions indicate widespread pre-monsoon thunderstorms across Western Maharashtra over the next three days, particularly between Pune and Kolhapur. However, independent weather expert Abhijit Modak cautioned that the monsoon's progress could face challenges due to an influx of dry air from the northwest, which may hinder its flow and create less rainy weather conditions. Meteorologists emphasize that the situation remains dynamic, and clearer forecasts regarding the monsoon's coverage over major areas like Mumbai and Pune are anticipated in the coming days as these weather systems evolve.
