Tourists and visitors to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can now open digital bank accounts and receive debit cards instantly thanks to a new biometric-based service. Launched by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), this initiative allows non-resident visitors to create accounts through a fully digital process that utilizes biometrics and facial recognition technology. Previously, opening an account required extensive documentation, but this new system streamlines the process, enabling tourists to access essential banking services within minutes. Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, Assistant Governor for Banking Operations at CBUAE, emphasized that the initiative enhances the ease of doing business and connects visitors to the UAE's national payment ecosystem, including the 'Jaywan' card scheme and the instant payment platform 'Aani'. This move is part of the UAE's broader strategy to promote cashless transactions and improve financial inclusion.
