India's foreign exchange reserves fell by $4.82 billion to $698.49 billion for the week ending April 24, as reported by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The decline was primarily driven by a $2.84 billion drop in foreign currency assets, which now total $554.62 billion. Additionally, gold reserves decreased by $1.90 billion to $120.24 billion, while Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) fell by $67 million to $18.77 billion. The reserve position with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also saw a slight decrease of $15 million, bringing it to $4.85 billion. This drop in reserves follows a rise of $2.3 billion in the previous week, indicating volatility in the forex market. India's reserves had peaked at an all-time high of $728.49 billion in late February, but have faced pressure due to global uncertainties, prompting the RBI to intervene to stabilize the Indian rupee without targeting a specific exchange rate.
