C Joseph Vijay, the founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is preparing to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10 after successfully garnering majority support in the state Assembly. He met with Governor RV Alekar to formally stake his claim to form the government, which was accepted. However, his position remains tentative as he must secure a vote of confidence by May 13 to confirm his majority in the Assembly. This vote is a constitutional requirement in parliamentary systems to ensure the chief minister has the support of the majority of elected representatives. Vijay's coalition, which includes the Congress party, CPI, CPI(M), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), has secured approximately 120 MLAs, surpassing the majority threshold in the 234-member Assembly. The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at 10 am at Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
