Patel denies these allegations, stating that The Atlantic chose to publish falsehoods despite being provided with the truth prior to publication. The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, claims that the magazine ignored detailed refutations and did not respond to a letter from Patel's lawyer. In response, The Atlantic has stated it stands by its reporting and will vigorously defend itself against what it describes as a meritless lawsuit.
