Tushar Doshi, the superintendent of police in Satara district, Maharashtra, was transferred to Sangli on Monday, coinciding with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's rally in Satara. This reshuffle is part of a broader transfer involving nine Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The transfer follows escalating tensions between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)–Shiv Sena alliance after the BJP allegedly won the Satara Zilla Parishad president post through cross-voting. Shiv Sena leaders have accused police personnel of manhandling their members during the election process, prompting Maharashtra Legislative Council deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe to suggest Doshi's suspension. However, council chairman Ram Shinde stated that the matter would be reviewed by legal experts before any action is taken. Although officials did not directly link Doshi's transfer to the controversy, its timing has raised speculation. During the rally, Shinde indirectly criticized the BJP and highlighted the Shiv Sena's improved performance in local elections, claiming significant gains in zilla parishad and municipal body representation.
