Mediacom Communications has launched its new 5-Gig Internet service, marking the fastest residential speed tier the company has ever offered. This service is now available to more than 500,000 homes across various Minnesota communities, including Belle Plaine, Hutchinson, Montgomery, St. Peter, and Waseca. Mediacom plans to expand this availability to over one million homes by the end of 2026 as part of its strategy to deploy multi-gigabit capabilities. The service is powered by a fiber-rich network that enhances speed and performance while minimizing disruption during installation. Mediacom's Chief Technology Officer, JR Walden, highlighted that the company has built one of America's most extensive fiber networks, which spans over one million fiber miles. The 5-Gig service leverages advanced DOCSIS technology and AI to deliver improved reliability and performance. Additionally, all Gigabit tiers come with Wi-Fi 7 technology, ensuring fast connectivity throughout homes, which is crucial for activities like gaming and 4K streaming.
