Mediacom Communications has launched its new 5-Gig Internet service, marking the fastest residential speed tier offered by the company. This service is available to over 500,000 homes in various Iowa communities, including Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Ankeny. Mediacom aims to extend availability to more than one million homes by the end of 2026 as part of its multi-gig deployment strategy. The infrastructure supporting this service is built on a fiber-rich network, which enhances speed and performance while minimizing construction disruptions. JR Walden, Mediacom's Chief Technology Officer, emphasized the network's scalability, stating that it spans over one million fiber miles. The 5-Gig service is powered by next-generation DOCSIS technology and enhanced by AI, ensuring greater reliability. Additionally, all Gigabit tiers come with Wi-Fi 7 technology, which provides seamless connectivity for activities like gaming and 4K streaming. Rod Cundy, Vice President of Mediacom's Capital West Region, expressed excitement about this launch, highlighting the company's commitment to delivering advanced technology and reliable service to its customers.
