The Maharashtra government's primary education department has announced an extension of the admission process under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2026-27 until April 30, 2026. Initially set for April 20, the deadline was pushed back due to a slow response from parents in finalizing admissions in private schools. According to primary education director Sharad Gosavi, this extension aims to provide all selected students with ample opportunity to complete their admission formalities. The lottery for admissions took place on April 6, with the selection list released on April 10. Currently, approximately 39,000 students have secured admission under the RTE quota, with Pune district leading at 17,728 admissions. A total of 8,701 private schools across Maharashtra have offered 114,826 seats under this quota, while the department received 289,286 applications this year.
