On Tuesday, Jagdish Giri, a 60-year-old retired home guard from Pure Mahant Ramgarh village in Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, India, was killed after a car ran over him while he was repairing his SUV's number plate. The incident took place in the Raniganj area along the Lucknow-Varanasi highway. Giri had returned late from a wedding when he noticed the damage to his vehicle. Around 11 am, while parked outside a garage, he began fixing the number plate when a speeding car lost control and struck him, resulting in his death at the scene. The driver, identified as Indrajeet Singh from Gauriganj in Amethi, a retired block development officer, sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to the Raniganj Trauma Centre before being referred to a medical college hospital. Preliminary findings indicate that Singh may have fallen asleep at the wheel after attending a wedding. Police have seized the vehicle and are conducting further investigations.
