The Rajasthan state health department has ordered an inquiry into serious allegations made by Radha Devi, a 33-year-old woman who claims that a private hospital in Bikaner, Rajasthan, removed one of her kidneys without consent during a sterilization procedure. The incident reportedly occurred at Jeevan Raksha Hospital on July 11, 2024. After experiencing abdominal pain on April 16, 2025, she consulted a doctor, and a sonography revealed that her right kidney was missing. In response to her complaint, the Bikaner police have launched a parallel investigation. However, preliminary inquiries indicated that the woman could not provide any prior medical documents confirming the presence of both kidneys before the surgery. The hospital has refuted the claims, stating that it is not medically possible to remove a kidney through the incision used for a tubectomy and noted that some individuals may naturally have a single kidney. The Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Pukharaj Sad, mentioned that a committee has been formed to investigate the matter and is expected to submit its report within three days.
