Jai Ram Thakur, the leader of the opposition in Himachal Pradesh, India, has demanded a high-level inquiry into a tuberculosis outbreak at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Nursing Institute and Hospital in Khaneri, Rampur Bushahr. Nineteen out of 90 nursing students have reportedly contracted the infection, raising serious concerns about the institute's health standards. Thakur criticized the state government for its inadequate response, stating that it is shameful for such a significant number of students to become infected on a single campus. He highlighted a letter from parents to the medical superintendent as evidence of the government's failure to act effectively. BJP leader Kaul Negi noted that the students' health issues stemmed from poor nutrition and mental stress, with previous inquiries revealing irregularities at the institute. Medical superintendent Roshan Kaundal confirmed that two students were previously infected, with one cured and preventive measures now in place for the remaining students. The chief minister's media adviser acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and promised a thorough investigation.
