President Droupadi Murmu congratulated the Indian women's football team for their impressive victory in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women's Championship 2026. The team claimed their record-extending sixth title with a 3-1 win over Bangladesh in the final held at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. The match saw Pyari Xaxa score first, followed by an equalizer from Bangladesh's Ritu Porna Chakma. However, India quickly regained the lead with a goal from Sanfida Nongrum shortly after halftime, and Lynda Kom Serto sealed the victory with a third goal in the 82nd minute. The triumph not only marked India's return to the top of South Asian women's football after 2019 but also highlighted their dominance in the tournament, winning all four matches while scoring 18 goals and conceding just one. Sanfida was awarded the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and Aveka Singh finished as the top scorer. The victory also celebrated the retirement of veteran player Dangmei Grace, who secured her third SAFF title. Nepal received the Fair Play Award, and Panthoi Chanu Elangbam was named the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.
