Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankabratha Bagchi has declared that wearing helmets is mandatory for all two-wheeler riders and their passengers, emphasizing that helmets must fully cover the face and bear ISI certification. This announcement was made during a road safety awareness program organized by the city police in partnership with Aap Sabki Awaaz. The initiative included a bike rally to promote road safety and the distribution of helmets to Home Guards. Commissioner Bagchi highlighted that 45% of road accidents in Visakhapatnam involve two-wheelers, with the lack of helmet use being a significant factor in serious injuries and fatalities. He expressed concern about the rising number of teenage deaths due to reckless driving and non-adherence to traffic rules. The Commissioner also encouraged further awareness initiatives, including the display of information regarding blood donors and blood banks for tourists and visitors in case of emergencies.
