The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in India has issued notices to six cricket stadiums, including Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, due to their failure to disclose the sources of water used for maintaining pitches and grounds. The NGT had previously requested this information from several stadiums as part of an investigation into the use of groundwater instead of treated sewage water. The tribunal expressed concern over the lack of rainwater harvesting systems at these facilities, which could help in groundwater storage and restoration. A bench led by NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava noted that seven stadiums initially failed to respond to repeated directives, with only one seeking additional time to comply. The six stadiums now under scrutiny include the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Dr D Y Patil Stadium, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, and Barabati Stadium. The NGT has directed the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) to communicate this order to the stadiums, with further proceedings set for July 2.
