At least twelve sitting senators failed to secure their return tickets, leading to strategic resignations. Notably, Ovie Omo-Agege, the former deputy president of the Nigerian Senate, left the APC after losing the Delta Central senatorial ticket to Senator Ede Dafinone and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Similarly, Shehu Buba Umar, who represented Bauchi South, defected to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) after withdrawing from the APC governorship primaries, citing a lack of internal democracy. Senator Sama’ila Dahuwa, who had previously switched to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also joined the PRP after concerns over his return ticket. These defections could have serious implications for the APC's electoral chances, particularly in Bauchi State, as the party grapples with internal dissent and the loss of influential members.
