On April 28, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the 'Mahila Aakrosh Mashaal Rally' in Dehradun, which saw thousands of women protesting against the setback to the Women's Reservation Bill. He noted that women are increasingly aware and assertive about their rights, emphasizing their role as active decision-makers rather than passive observers. The Chief Minister criticized certain political parties for treating women's empowerment as a political tool, asserting that the new generation of women is prepared to respond democratically to these issues. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to protecting women's dignity and rights, stating that their progress is essential for the development of both Uttarakhand and India. The rally followed the recent defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, which aimed to reserve seats for women in parliament and state assemblies but failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority.
