In response to a recent fatal hotel fire in Delhi, authorities in Lucknow have launched a comprehensive fire safety audit targeting high-occupancy buildings such as hotels, restaurants, malls, and apartments. Over the past two days, the Lucknow Fire Department conducted inspections, and the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) joined the effort on Saturday. A total of 29 establishments were audited, focusing on the availability and functionality of fire safety equipment including extinguishers, hydrants, and smoke detectors. The LDA also requested approved building plans and fire clearances from these establishments, which will be verified against on-site findings. As part of the initiative, around 502 individuals received training in fire safety protocols, including the proper use of extinguishers and evacuation procedures. LDA Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar stated that this exercise aims to ensure compliance with fire safety norms, with strict action against any lapses that could endanger public safety. Additionally, the LDA is working with Resident Welfare Associations to address fire safety concerns in residential complexes, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing safety measures across the city.
