Oil marketing companies have been facing substantial losses, estimated at ₹703 per cylinder sold, as they continue to sell LPG below cost. The increase is part of a broader trend of rising fuel prices, with petrol and diesel also seeing significant hikes in recent weeks. Despite these revisions, state-run oil companies are still incurring losses, with petrol and diesel being sold at losses of approximately ₹11 and ₹33.6 per litre, respectively. The government has opted not to fully pass on the rising global energy costs to consumers, absorbing some of the financial burden to protect households from steeper price increases. The latest LPG price hike is expected to impact household budgets, especially for families reliant on LPG for cooking, as energy prices remain closely tied to international market fluctuations.
