The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is accelerating the establishment of two truck terminals in Turbhe and Airoli, aimed at addressing severe traffic congestion in the Thane-Belapur industrial corridor. With a total investment of ₹205 crore (approximately $24.6 million USD), these terminals are a response to ongoing issues raised by industrial associations and directives from state leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The ₹95-crore Turbhe terminal is located in MIDC's D Block and is designed to manage truck queues that currently obstruct local roads. Meanwhile, the ₹110-crore Airoli terminal will serve as a key interception point for trucks entering the industrial belt. Both facilities are expected to significantly improve logistics and reduce the haphazard parking of heavy vehicles on city roads. As freight demand continues to rise, the terminals will also facilitate better integration with cargo flows linked to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Once operational, traffic authorities plan to implement stricter enforcement against roadside truck parking in the area.
