In Kurukshetra district, Haryana, deputy commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena announced penalties totaling ₹3.39 lakh imposed on four contractors for their slow pace in lifting wheat from the Ladwa grain market. The contractors, which include M/s CS Transport Company, M/s SH Labor Contractor, M/s Karnail Singh and Company, and M/s Radheshyam, failed to provide the necessary 679 trucks required for timely lifting within the mandated 72 hours. Consequently, a penalty of ₹500 per truck was levied, resulting in each contractor owing ₹84,975. The deputy commissioner emphasized the need for the contractors to expedite the lifting process and warned that failure to comply could lead to the cancellation of their tenders. As of April 21, the district has procured 4.71 lakh metric tonnes of wheat, with 2.05 lakh metric tonnes already lifted. Additionally, ₹478.75 crore has been transferred to farmers' accounts in the district.
