Uttar Pradesh Minister Narendra Kashyap announced a 10% increase in electricity bills for residents starting in June 2023, attributing the hike to escalating fuel costs and the Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS). This decision comes in light of the ongoing crisis in West Asia, which has affected global fuel prices. Kashyap emphasized that under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership, there have been no tax increases over the past nine years, suggesting that the public should accept this hike positively. The UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) clarified that the surcharge, calculated for March 2026, will be applied across all consumer categories. This adjustment aligns with directives from the Union Government and the Regulatory Commission, reflecting the impact of global fuel price fluctuations on power procurement costs. Residents are encouraged to account for these additional charges when settling their June electricity bills.
