In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has reportedly urged the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) to sever its ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which the DMK labels as a 'communal party.' This demand comes amidst the backdrop of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging as the largest party in the recent elections, securing 108 seats, although it fell short of the majority by 10 seats. The DMK is considering extending external support to the AIADMK under the condition that it distances itself from the BJP, alongside other stipulations such as ministerial positions for smaller allies like the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
