MK Stalin, the outgoing Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has called on Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to promptly facilitate the formation of a new government following the recent elections. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor Vijay, emerged as the single largest party with 107 seats but is currently in a standoff with the Governor, who has requested the party to prove its majority in the Assembly. Stalin criticized this demand as an overreach and emphasized that the results of the election have been clear for some time. He stated that it is both a necessity and a democratic duty to establish a new government so that elected members can assume their responsibilities. The TVK has received support from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), which have pledged external backing without forming a formal alliance. The BJP, led by Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran, has accepted the election results and will refrain from supporting any party in the government formation process. As the political landscape evolves, there are speculations about a possible alliance between the DMK and AIADMK to prevent the TVK from forming the government, particularly if the Governor continues to obstruct the process.
