On April 9, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a bribery case against Inspector B Pawar at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Silvassa, Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and his aide M Kokani. The case arose from a complaint by a Mumbai-based transporter who alleged that Pawar solicited a bribe of 1% of the vehicle's purchase price, amounting to ₹11.95 lakh (approximately $14,400 USD), to facilitate the registration of a new vehicle. The transporter, who operates school vehicle services, reported the demand after being directed to Kokani, who runs a local motor-driving school. During a discreet verification by the CBI, Kokani confirmed the bribe demand but negotiated it down to ₹10,000 (about $120 USD). Following this confirmation, the CBI filed charges against both individuals under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Corruption Act, which address bribery and corruption in public service.
