Karan Rajeshwar Mishra, a 20-year-old from Basti district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on May 7 for allegedly swapping laptop bags with dummy ones on Mumbai's suburban railway network. Posing as a working professional, Mishra targeted commuters during peak hours, discreetly exchanging their bags filled with scrap material for their actual laptop bags. His arrest helped resolve five theft cases registered at Vashi Railway Police Station, including four in March and one on April 11. The investigation revealed CCTV footage that identified him, as well as a digital payment made shortly after a theft, which led police to trace him back to his village. Officers recovered stolen laptops, accessories, and cash linked to multiple thefts. Mishra has been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
