On Tuesday, the Maharashtra Transport Department launched the 'Practical Marathi' initiative to help non-Marathi-speaking drivers learn basic conversational Marathi. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled a guidebook containing essential phrases for daily interactions between drivers and passengers. The initiative aims to enhance communication and improve the overall passenger experience in the state's transport sector. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik emphasized that this program is designed to eliminate language barriers in service delivery. Training sessions will be conducted at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), supported by printed materials and digital resources. This initiative coincides with a 100-day verification and compliance drive that assesses transport permits and drivers' knowledge of Marathi, covering all 59 RTOs in Maharashtra. The government plans to review the outcomes of both initiatives after August 15 to determine any necessary regulatory actions.
