A six-year-old boy named Krishnan was found dead in his home in Vyasarpadi, Chennai, leading to the arrest of his mother, Sivaranjani. On May 4, 2023, Sivaranjani reported that she discovered Krishnan unconscious. He was taken to Govt Stanley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Hospital staff alerted police due to visible bruises on the child's neck, prompting an investigation. Initially, Sivaranjani claimed that Krishnan had fallen from a sofa, but a postmortem revealed he died from asphyxiation due to strangulation. During the investigation, Sivaranjani provided conflicting accounts of the events. It was reported that Krishnan had behavioral issues and had stopped attending school. On the day of the incident, he had tied a sacred thread around his infant brother's neck, leading Sivaranjani to demonstrate the pain by wrapping a dupatta around Krishnan's neck, which resulted in his loss of consciousness. She believed he was asleep until she found him unresponsive the next morning. Following these findings, police charged her with murder, and she has been remanded in judicial custody.
