The Nagpur division in Maharashtra, India, has faced a disappointing performance in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations for the third consecutive year, achieving an overall pass percentage of 88.67%. This marks a decline of nearly two percentage points from the previous year, placing Nagpur second to last among the state's nine divisions, with only Latur performing worse at 84.14%. Out of 153,256 registered students, 152,230 appeared for the exams, with 134,988 passing. The statewide pass percentage stood at 89.79%, with Konkan division leading at 94.14%. Notably, the Science stream excelled with a pass percentage of 97.28%, while the Arts stream struggled significantly at 75.59%. A concerning statistic is that only 4.75% of students scored above 75%, with Nagpur ranking eighth in this category as well. In terms of gender performance, girls outshone boys, achieving a pass rate of 92.5% compared to 84.9% for boys. District-wise, Nagpur district performed the best at 91.66%, while Gadchiroli had the lowest at 79.63%. Officials attribute the decline in results to stricter evaluation standards this year, which they argue will ultimately lead to improved academic quality.
