The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is considering a gradual transition to digital examinations for Classes 10 and 12, according to board chairman Trigun Kulkarni. This initiative aims to address the substantial paper usage in the examination process, with the HSC 2026 exams alone consuming over 10.92 crore pages and approximately 223 metric tonnes of paper. In addition to moving towards digital exams, the board has implemented administrative reforms, including issuing combined mark sheets and certificates. A pilot project for a GPS-enabled digital lock system was successfully conducted in Baramati taluka to securely transport question papers. Furthermore, starting next year, all exam centers will be required to have 100% CCTV coverage to enhance exam integrity, a measure already showing promise in reducing malpractice. During the HSC 2026 exams, 1,983 cases of unfair means were reported, resulting in 15 FIRs filed and 100 staff members suspended for misconduct.
