The ongoing Census 2027 house-listing exercise in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has successfully covered over 45.42 lakh houses as of May 11, 2026. This phase of the census, which began on April 16, includes 33 questions regarding household details and is expected to cover an estimated 51.86 lakh houses across the city. So far, 33.41 lakh households have been enumerated. Each structure with an address is counted as a Census house, while a household is defined as a structure that includes a kitchen. However, officials have noted that the initial days of the survey faced challenges, leading to a reliance on broader estimates from Bescom (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company) data, which may not accurately reflect the number of Census houses. The enumeration process is currently ongoing in 4,439 blocks, with 17,301 blocks already mapped. To ensure comprehensive coverage, enumerators are now visiting homes during evening hours to account for residents who were not home during the day. The latest report indicates 1.66 lakh locked houses, 5.55 lakh vacant properties, and 6.04 lakh structures used for commercial purposes have been identified.
