The Bombay High Court has cleared the path for the redevelopment of the Sahakarnagar Cooperative Housing Society, which includes 46 buildings and 826 flats in Wadala, Mumbai. This decision ends a 13-year wait for residents living in dilapidated structures built in 1957. The court ruled against Pioneer Constructions, the original developer, who sought to block the society's decision to appoint a new developer due to significant delays in the project. Justice Sandeep Marne noted that the residents' right to live in safer and better homes supersedes the developer's profit motives. The court highlighted that Pioneer Constructions had not made any progress in the redevelopment over the years, stating, 'He has not moved even a single brick.' The society had initially contracted Pioneer in January 2013, but after years of inaction, they decided to engage M/s Sugee Developers. The court also appointed advocate Amrut Joshi as the sole arbitrator to resolve ongoing disputes between the housing society and the former developer.
