Bengaluru's beer market is witnessing a revival after a sluggish year, with sales rising significantly due to the summer heat and the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket season. According to data from the Karnataka Excise Department, beer sales jumped by 10.6% in January 2026, with 27.9 lakh carton boxes sold. Following a brief dip in February, sales rebounded with a 14% increase in March and a remarkable 21% rise in April. Traders attribute this surge to the warmer weather, which has led consumers to prefer lighter drinks. Additionally, Gen Z consumers are shifting towards low-alcohol, flavor-heavy beers, such as Berliner Weisse-style brews infused with fruits like watermelon and guava. Despite this positive trend, industry experts caution that the overall consumption is still below previous highs, with peak summer sales dropping from 10,000-11,000 litres per month to around 6,000-7,000 litres. The anticipation of tax revisions is also influencing sales, as manufacturers are increasing stock to prepare for potential changes in pricing structures.
