The United States is considering the deployment of its long-range hypersonic missile, known as the Dark Eagle, to West Asia, particularly as tensions with Iran persist despite ongoing ceasefire talks. The request, made by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), is driven by concerns that existing missile systems cannot effectively reach key Iranian targets, especially after Iranian forces relocated their ballistic missile launchers beyond the range of current US capabilities. The Dark Eagle, which is still under development, boasts a range of over 1,725 miles (approximately 2,776 kilometers) and can travel at speeds exceeding five times the speed of sound, making it hard to intercept due to its unpredictable flight path. Each missile is estimated to cost around $15 million, and a full battery could run up to $2.7 billion. The potential deployment of the Dark Eagle could mark the first use of hypersonic missiles in a conflict by the US, indicating a shift in military strategy and an escalation in the ongoing tensions with Iran.
